Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Place sugar and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat, stirring constantly while it comes to a simmer. Cook, without stirring, 8-10 minutes or until mixture becomes a light amber color. Remove from heat; carefully and slowly whisk in the remaining 1/2 cup water and vanilla extract until incorporated.
  2. Let cool; transfer to a jar or airtight container. Store in refrigerator.
