Today is my birthday! Every year on my birthday, I like to take a moment and look back and reflect on the last year of my life and see if I’ve learned anything or had the opportunity to grow in some way. When I did that today, I realized this year has been a doozy! I’ve learned and grown so much and I wanted to share a few of those lessons with you. First of all, I’ve never announced over social media, blog or podcast that it is my birthday, but it has been really effective and given everyone who wants to an opportunity to shower me with love today. Not that I’ve really needed everyone else’s love, but it sure feels nice! Facebook makes it possible for so many complete strangers to wish you a happy birthday. It’s pretty crazy.
So, as I reviewed the last year of my life, I realized that at this time last year, I was enrolled in 9 hours of graduate work in counseling. Shortly after the semester started, I realized that it was way too much for me along with my responsibilities at home. So, I dropped one of my classes and it was still too much. So, I dropped another and was left with only one class. Then I realized I didn’t like the program and decided to drop out completely. That sent me into a tailspin and full on identity crisis. I was depressed and trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my life.
Luckily, I have a great support system and that period of time didn’t last too long. I started to get dressed and exercise and spend time with my family and friends. After long conversations with my husband about what skills and talents I had, I started looking into different service organizations. I quickly realized there were no organizations out there doing exactly what I felt passionate about, which is social media and it’s effects on our youth. I started to pray and ask for guidance.
Soon, the inspiration was coming so quickly, I could barely write it down fast enough. God mapped out a plan for my to start my own nonprofit and helped me find the perfect people to help me. I went from pretty low at the beginning of the year to doing exactly what God needed me to do in starting a podcast and forming a nonprofit organization. I spent a lot of time praying for guidance and a lot of time listening and acting. God knew exactly how to use my talents for a greater good and I am so grateful.
I am so excited to keep on sharing this journey with you and giving you more details as they materialize. For now, I would love for you to give me some feedback on the blog and the podcast in any way that is easy for you. You can text, email, DM, message, comment on a post or leave me a review on Facebook or iTunes. I’ll take any feedback in any way. I really appreciate it so I can keep giving you the content you find helpful and relevant in your lives.
